In the context of parental child abduction, both the abducting and the left-behind parent usually argue that they want to protect the child and to ensure the child’s well-being. In doing so, they lose sight of how the child experiences the abduction and its consequences, such as, for example, the loss of contact with the other parent and the familiar environment, and what – including long-term – effects the parents‘ actions may have on the child. This lecture will shed light on the child’s experience and perspective from a psychological point of view.
